Frequently Asked Questions

What is Montessori?

Dr. Maria Montessori established her first school, dubbed Casa de Bambini (Children’s House), in Rome on January 6th, 1907. First created to educate and provide care for the children of impoverished working parents, Dr. Montessori’s philosophy ultimately centers on fostering the independence and respect of each individual child. Today, schools following the Montessori method apply her pedagogy in areas such as practical life, language, zoology, math, and sensorimotor, among others. Classrooms will have many opportunities for the child to practice care of self, care of others, and care of their environment. The specifics in each area vary by each classroom, but the ideals remain the same. All Montessori classrooms will be a mixed age group. Here at Los Niños, we have Infants (6 weeks through 18 months), Toddlers (18 months through 3 years) and Primary (3 years through 6 years old).

Does Los Niños provide food and supplies?

Families supply all food and personal supplies/consumables for their child. This includes items such a daily lunchbox, diapers, wipes, a sheet and blanket for nap, bottles, and breastmilk/formula, all specific to your child’s age, classroom, and specific needs. Upon enrollment, your child’s teacher or a member of administration will provide you with a supply list. Los Niños DOES provide materials and needed school supplies for your child and their classmates to use within their classroom for projects, work, and lessons. This includes items such as paint, pencils, crayons, glue, paper, books, and all Montessori specific materials.

How do I pay tuition?

Tuition can be paid through cash, check, or Zelle. Families receive a monthly statement. Tuition is due no later than the 5th of the month. Los Niños does accept childcare subsidy contracts through the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department for families that qualify.

What age groups are accepted?

Los Niños currently has three classrooms. Infant (6 weeks-18 months), Toddler (18 months-3 years, and Primary (3-6 years). We are now seeking to expand into an older infant/young toddler transitional classroom to meet the specific needs of children who are mobile and beginning to build independence, but are not yet ready for the Toddler class.
